Please read carefully before completing your application form.

1. By participation in the competition, entrants are agreeing to be bound by these rules and the decisions of the organizers of “Make It, Break It” which shall be final

2. Entry deadline has been extended to the 3rd July because of some problems with our server. The entry must be received by end of the day 3rd July.   Postal entries must be sent no later than the 1st July.

3. Entries must include:-

- Two recorded songs complete with lyric sheets.

- A list of recording equipment and instruments used

- A promotional plan. Example click here

- Detailed information about songwriters/band members

4. You must own the rights for each song, recording and promotional plan. The full entry should be the songwriter’s original work without external help or assistance

5. For songs with multiple writers, each name must be entered on the application form. The songwriter(s) or the majority of the songwriters must be within the age category entered (14 -16yrs or 17-19yrs)

6. The songs should be less than 5 minutes long with English lyrics

7. Winners will be notified by post and must sign and return a declaration to receive an award. Failure to sign and return the declaration or provision of false/inaccurate information will result in immediate disqualification and an alternative winner will be selected

8. The allocation of prizes is solely the responsibility of the winners; for example, if the song is written by multiple writers 

9. Prizes may vary slightly from advertised although a similar value prize will be offered.  There is no cash alternative to prizes, and if you disqualify no prizes will be rewarded

10.  If a group wins and disbands before the music academy award the song may be disqualified, unless the group can still work together or it is clear who the songwriter is

11. Entries under 18yrs must be countersigned by a parent or legal guardian. If you enter online and tick the box you are confirming that you have your parents or legal guardian’s permission to enter the competition and attend the prize academy. False information will disqualify the song

12. The organisers of the competition retain the rights to use winner’s names, likenesses, songs, quotes and voices for future advertising and publicity purposes without additional compensation or permission from the point of entry and in future promotion of MIBI; aside from the promotional use; the rights remains with the songwriter

13. The rights to the song(s) is retained by the songwriter(s), although “Make It, Break It” may use it for promotional purposes

14. There will be 6 winners in total; 3 winners in each age group category of 14-16yrs and 17-19yrs

15. Winners must attend the music academy, rehearsal and recording sessions held at the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts (LIPA) from Wednesday, 27 October to Sunday, 1 November, 2010.  Winners will be required to perform their winning entry song and a second song of their choice at the awards ceremony on the evening of Saturday, 30th October, at LIPA.  Winners have the option to perform with a band of session musicians which will be provided by the organisers of   “Make It, Break It”

16. Failure to attend the music academy and award ceremony will disqualify the song and winners shall not be able claim their prizes or their school, college or rehearsal studio prize

17. Previous winners may only re-enter if they have moved to the next age group category of 17-19yrs and is not a 2009 winner

18. The maximum entry is two songs per one entry.  The same band may enter twice, but only if the songs are written exclusively by different band members. Please note that in this case, the songwriter(s), not the band, will be seen as the winner(s)

19. The competition is open to UK residents only

20. The preliminary judging process will take place after the
deadline, and if you have been successful you will get a letter
early July to say you have been shortlisted. You will not get a letter if you have been unsuccessful. The final judging
takes place in July/August, and winners will be announced early September.

Please note:  It is strictly against the competition rules for any enquiries regarding the competition by any entrants or anyone acting on their behalf to contact the Make It, Break It sponsors, partners or associates including EMI, HMV or Yamaha.
